South Bend Central High School Remembered

South Bend Schools Home Economics Cookbook
In 1921, teachers of the South Bend Schools Home Economics Department issued its own cookbook. This cookbook was revised every few years with a final printing completed in 1960. The South Bend Alumni Association has now reprinted the 1960 edition and they are available to the public. Each book sold raises funds for the Alumni Association. Your purchase helps with our mission and is sincerely appreciated. Cost is $10 including tax if the book is picked up at our office or our monthly luncheon. The South Bend Alumni Association has a library of virtually all past yearbooks from our high schools. If we have more than two in our library, the extra copies are available for sale. The cost per year book is $30 if picked up at our office. If you would prefer the book mailed to you, we can do that for an additional $5 P&H.  Kurt Simon Businessman & Benefactor by Gabrielle Robinson
A well written book with a variety of photos about a man who was born in Germany and fled to the United States in 1930 escaping the holocaust. A 1931 Central graduate who earned hlis college degree at Notre Dame and entered the business world as a salesman then came to be the chief executive of a large food distributorship. The book tells of his love of family and how he became a benefactor of many charitable and needy causes, particularly in the areas of education, chlildren and religion. $10 plus $5 for S&H. The Alumni Association benefits from all book sales.

Newman's Musings by Don m. Newman
Don Newman, Riley '41 has a book that is full of stories, photos, poety and 'musings'. The book is hardback with glossy paper and color photos. It is well written and tells the story of a young man who grew up in the depression, served his country in WWII as a pilot then later had a professional career as a pharmacist, flying and in politics at the state and national levels. Don has generously made the book available to the Alumni Association with all sales going to the organization. The book sells for $25 including tax. We will send the book for $5 postage. Contact the Alumni Association to place an order.
Wear Your Colors Proudly!
- The Alumni Association no longer has a catalog of clothing and items with school colors and logos. The named sporting goods store in South Bend did this work for the Association in past years and does have silk screens on file to produce shirts, sweat shirts, caps, towels, bags, blankets, etc.. They also can do embroidery.

Yearbooks
If anyone has a yearbook they wish to donate to the Alumni Association please contact us. If we are missing the book in our library collection it will go there with a label acknowledging the donor. If we have extra copies we will send them to people who are looking for a book and ask for a $30 donation for every book we send plus $5 for postage and handling. We will post books being sought and those we have in stock. Posted below are some of the yearbooks we have in storage; some listed may not be available when you call. We try to keep the list current.
